Tonight, the WRWBL released the midseason rankings for the 2023 season. This is now the second time the league has updated the rankings since the initial launch of the preseason rankings. There were some risers and fallers this time around. The New York Bears jumped up three spots to take the #3 slot in the rankings, while the Somers Cyclones and New Rochelle Tigers both dropped down two slots.
1. New City Outlaws
They have been nothing short of dominant all season long. Kevin Blum is a legitimate front runner for the Cy Young, their bats have been on fire as of late, and they have seen some newcomers contribute early on. They are a team nobody wants to face come playoff time.
2. New York Finest
The Finest have bounced back nicely in the past few weeks. Their pitching is starting to catch stride and Brandon Torres has been putting up MVP numbers all season long. The Outlaws may be the top dog, but the Finest are right there behind them.
3. New York Bears
After a dreadful 1-5 start to the season, the Bears have exploded for 7 wins in their last 9 games. Parker Gibbons and Marc Stockhausen have led a vaunted Bears lineup, and their 1-2 punch of Chris Calamari and Joe Scarfone have been dynamite so far. They'll look to keep it going into the second half of the season.
4. New Rochelle Tigers
After a strong start to the season, the Tigers have fallen off a bit. Tough losses to the Bears and Outlaws have setback a Tigers team that looked to be frontrunners early on. Joe Mandile and co. will look to get back on track in the second half of the season.
5. Westchester Statesmen
Jackson Branigan is "Mr. Do It All" for the Statesmen. The ROY frontrunner has been nothing short of dominant on both sides of the ball, and his teammates have also stepped up in big situations. They have gotten good production from their depth and will look to ride that momentum the rest of the way.
6. Somers Cyclones
The Clones have hit a wall. Despite great hitting production from Donny Castaldo and Liam Kaseta, the Clones have struggled at times with their offensive consistency. Their pitching has also struggled of late to keep runs off the board. They were a preseason favorite to challenge for the title and they have the talent to achieve that. They will need to turn things around fast.
7. New York City Thunderdogs
It has been a rough season for the Dogs. Despite an otherworldly start for MVP candidate Andrew Barreras, the Dogs have struggled with consistency and keeping runs off the board. Their offense has some studs, but they'll need to find a way to keep other teams at bay to stay competitive.
