Last night the WRWBL released their annual preseason power rankings to kick start the 2023 season. Rankings were based on numerous factors and as always are subject to change throughout the season. Here are the rankings with a little explanation for each below!
1. New York Finest
Despite losing the league MVP winner, the defending champions return once again with a loaded roster. They have the talent and leadership needed to go back-to-back.
2. Somers Cylcones
They return arguably one of the league's best bats, kept most of their core, and added some new young talent. Is this the year they break their trophyless drought?
3. New York Bears
Last year's runner up lost nearly half their roster but quickly rebuilt it back with a handful of talented newcomers that should contribute early on. They are very deep with talent.
4. New Rochelle Tigers
Their offense is one of the best in the league but their lack of pitching depth holds them back from being a surefire contender. Their season will rest on the shoulders of Joe Mandile's arm.
5. New City Outlaws
They're young and very talented, especially in the pitching department. They added some key new pieces this offseason. Will an added year of experience in the WRWBL help them get over the hump?
6. New York City Thunderdogs
Losing a Cy Young winning ace is a tough task to overcome. They had a big roster turnover in the offseason and will look to find consistency early-on.
7. Westchester Statesmen
They are young and talented, but the WRWBL learning curve can be an issue at times for new guys. Being able to catch on quickly will be the key for this youthful team.
