Team Preview: Thunderdogs

05/10/2022, 10:45am EDT

The WRWBL's most improved team from 2021 returns this season with a young and hungry roster that's ready for any challenge.

Last season, the T-Dogs exceeded all expectations. They posted their first regular season double digit win total since 2016, and more importantly pulled off a huge upset in the WRWBL playoffs when they demolished the New York Bears in the wild card round.

Manager Dave Lopez has turned his T-Dogs squad around nicely over the years. Researching the areas top talent in both Westchester and New York CIty, Lopez has been able to build a T-Dogs squad that is young, deep, and talented.

The T-Dogs return a solid core of talent, led by All-WRWBL first team selection Ranssel Pinedo. The gold glove third baseman will look to build off of a strong 2021 campaign that saw him as the driving force for an up-and-coming T-Dogs squad. Also making his return is T-Dog veteran and one of the league's great middle infielders, Pat Farina. After a short hiatus, Farina returned to the Dogs last season and his veteran leadership helped propel the Dogs both offensively and defensively. Standout utility man Tyler Paulino and veteran Andrew LeRay will also be tasked with providing a spark to this T-Dog squad. On the mound, longtime veteran right hander and playoff standout performer Frank Delgado will return to anchor a young T-Dogs pitching staff.

As mentioned before, the T-Dogs welcome a handful of new talent to their 2022 roster. Local collegiate standouts Noah Campo, Danny Keon, Brendan O'Neill, Danny Mellilo, and Engers Marte will all look to give this T-Dogs squad an added boost heading into the season. Combining their youth talent with their veteran leadership, Manager Dave Lopez will look to take his T-Dogs team to new heights this season.

The T-Dogs took a big step forward last season and put the league on notice. After many tough years, the T-Dogs have rejoined the conversation as a team to watch out for in the WRWBL. The big question remains as to whether or not they take an even greater leap forward this season.

We can't wait to see them in action!
